olympics vs politics
Monday, April 7, 2008
am saddened by the protests & politics having an effect on the beauty of games. 'free tibet' protest demonstrations could be seen everywhere in the world. esp when the olympic games is drawing near. as a "sportsman" myself (i takes up running & i plays soccer occasionally. haas!) its heartrending to see people protesting the games to be cancelled due to certain political issues. in reality china took yearsss to prepare for the games. yesh. i agree that there are controversial human rights issues in china. where the chinese working on the games were unkindly & unfairly treated. but is it fair to the chinese govt who spent $billions$ on people, infrastructure and environment? my opinion - olympics is a sporting event for all people. why do it soo politically? what will these anti-olympics protesters gain from it? frankly am not sure of the history of china & tibet. but was known that the protests started out after a riot outbreak in tibet months ago. soo what is it gotta do with china's hosting of olympic games? therefore can we hav a peaceful sporting event on 080808? will the torch arrive in beijing for the games? since it was threatened to be extinguished during a relay in london. haas. seriously am not sure why am blogging on these issues at this hr. anyway. had an eventful sun morning outing with relatives. tomb sweeping for my maternal grand-pa & great-grandparents. it was my 3rd year since the death of ah gong 8years ago. unfortunately am the only 'representative' from my family. mum not around. dad gotta work early. sadly siblings cant wake up early morning! (sth has to be done! they are not known to this day on lunar calendar) indeed this is a good day to know more about our ancestors. esp during the jap occupation. and the importance of our cultures. cheers.ciaoz Labels: best from me Posted by BEST at 1:02 AM
